Whereas 2021’s Misplaced in Random was removed from a roguelike, the group behind the journey recreation all the time knew its zany world and dice-based gameplay could be an awesome match for the fast-paced, combat-focused style.

“Misplaced in Random being a roguelike gave the impression of an awesome thought and [way] to proceed with the IP, however taking a brand new spin on it,” Martin Storm, the director of the brand new roguelike Misplaced in Random: The Everlasting Die, informed Polygon throughout a latest video name. “And that’s form of the way it began.”

The Everlasting Die spins off from Misplaced in Random, placing gamers behind the masks of the primary recreation’s antagonist, Queen Aleksandra. Leaning into the randomness of the collection, Aleks and Fortune, her sentient die companion, struggle via a collection of ever-shifting ranges to flee a strong artifact that has trapped them.

“I felt just like the die and randomness and the world match rather well with a roguelite. So we began out actually, actually small as a small group, and the path that we got was a roguelite within the Misplaced in Random universe with extra of a gameplay and fight focus,” Storm stated.

Whereas Even, the protagonist of the primary recreation, may take her time exploring the Kingdom of Random, there’s no such time for a breather in The Everlasting Die. Like roguelike king Hades, The Everlasting Die is filled with difficult encounters with story beats principally coming earlier than boss fights and in between runs. Whereas taking part in The Everlasting Die, it was clear Hades was an affect on the sport, and Storm stated as a lot. “Clearly Hades was an enormous inspiration. I believe Supergiant [Games] deserves quite a lot of reward, truthfully. It’s like they’ve shone a brand new mild on the roguelite and roguelike style… they confirmed a strategy to have narrative and nice gameplay within the style.”

The Everlasting Die hails from Stormteller Video games, a special developer than Misplaced in Random, although about half of the 19-person group consists of builders who labored on the unique recreation, serving to it keep the bizarre, quirky, and distinctive qualities of its predecessor. “I believe having so many individuals who labored on the primary recreation on this additionally simply helped with the essence. They know Misplaced in Random at coronary heart,” Storm stated.

As for what’s subsequent for the world of Misplaced in Random, Storm couldn’t reveal an excessive amount of concerning the group’s plans. Nonetheless, he did verify that Stormteller might be including extra content material to The Everlasting Die at a later date. “We’re persevering with on new issues for The Everlasting Die.
