Marathon sport director Joe Ziegler has introduced that he is leaving Bungie for a brand new job, and his departure comes at a tumultuous time for the studio.
Ziegler stated in a notice that taking on for him as sport director on Marathon will likely be Del Chafe III, who was beforehand the assistant sport director. Chafe III will work alongside inventive director Julia Nardin to “information the sport ahead.”
“Each of them have been working in a robust management capability for the crew and are able to information Marathon into the subsequent chapter with a good higher and brighter future,” Ziegler stated. “I am pleased with them and I am excited to see them helm the way forward for this loopy little world we have created collectively.”
Ziegler stated he’s “heading to one thing new, someplace else,” and can announce his new job quickly.
“I simply wish to say a deeply heartfelt thanks to all of you for supporting me and Marathon in our windy mission to convey a darkish and terrifying house survival frontier to your display,” Ziegler stated. “The mission will proceed in new and stunning methods so keep tuned for what this crew has in retailer for you!”
Ziegler was not Marathon’s first sport director. Christopher Barrett was sport director on the mission till he was dismissed over misconduct allegations. Earlier this month, Barrett settled his case with Bungie and Sony.
Ziegler joined Bungie on the finish of 2022, following a 12-year run at Riot Video games. He is leaving Bungie at a difficult time for the Sony-owned studio, which enacted a spherical of layoffs on the finish of June. The cuts impacted the Future and Marathon groups.
